The Power Of Now

One of my favorite bloggers recently made a post about liking an old picture of her living room rug (she had recently replaced the rug in the picture with a different one) & it made me smile. I think we are all so programmed to think progression is better, that sometimes we fail to see the beauty in the present. Although it can be so much fun to look forward to what is to come: purchasing that new lamp/bedspread/rug, etc., a bigger better something...and aiming for the “new and improved”, it is equally as important to cherish and use what we have in our homes now. It’s often only when we reflect back we see how good it really was. Here’s another type of example.  I’ve heard so many women (and men!)  comment, especially when they look back at older pictures of themselves in regards to their weight, “I can’t believe I thought I was overweight back then! I looked good!” I’ve felt that more times than I can count. And the same goes for old pictures of my home!

So when it comes to our homes (and ourselves!), instead of focusing on shortcomings, what if we decide to look around and see all the good things our home offers us in this moment; the shelter it provides, the welcoming scent of a meal cooking, the glow of the firelight or the cozy times spent together around the tv. The true essence of our home is not the physical make up but the way it makes us feel.

Overall, that is the goal of this blog. So that perhaps one person will look around and see new potential in their home and love where they are right now. That we can share and perhaps make forgotten things new again with a fresh perspective and some paint or wallpaper!

I truly believe one of life’s greatest lessons is learning to savor the now, don’t you? After all, these are the days.
