Cinnamon Roll Recipe
It’s mid January and like most everyone I know, I’m feeling a little bit like I overindulged during the holidays.
Momma's Cinnamon Rolls
5 Cups Flour
6 tbsp Baking Powder
2 tsp salt
2 tbsp white sugar
3/4 Cup shortening
2 eggs, beaten
Add enough milk to eggs to make 2 cups.
Add to dry ingredients after mixing with shortening
Dough should be sticky - if too sticky add a little more flour. If not sticky add a little more milk.
Roll on floured surface to 1/4 inch thickness. Spread with butter and top with cinnamon and brown sugar. Roll and slice in 1/2 inch sections. Bake on ungreased cookie sheet 15 minutes in 400 degree oven.
Top with icing if desired.
It’s also the coldest it’s been outside in a while, and we are bracing for a major storm on Sunday. While I feel like I want to watch my carb intake, I also feel Iike I want some comfort food!
My aunt Brenda has become almost famous for her biscuits around her community of Millbrook, Pictou County, (and within our family). Adapting the same recipe to make cinnamon rolls is a cinch. In fact, it's easy to use half of the biscuit dough to make biscuits and reserve the other half to make cinnamon rolls, foregoing the official cinnamon roll recipe all together.
My mom adapts Brenda's recipe a little bit for her cinnamon rolls - it’s basically the same recipe with a titch more shortening and eggs added.
If you do use the second recipe it makes the dough a little stickier and the dough is a dream to roll out.

I mixed some of these after work and the plate is now almost empty. I topped them with some homemade maple icing.
Here’s the biscuit & cinnamon roll recipes (in my moms handwriting).
Let me know if you try either of them and what you think. Tip: Brenda is very generous with the shortening and mixes the dough as little as possible in order to ensure flakiness for the biscuits. .
