Spring cleanup

I hope you all had a beautiful Easter! We had a great weekend celebrating with family and friends, enjoyed delicious food, wine, laughter and just being together. Just look at my moms beautiful table. It was lovely.

The warm weather on the weekend (+21!) made me turn my attention to the state of our house outside. It’s bleak friends! There’s no other way to describe it! The rain this week isn’t going to allow for any yard work but it gives me a chance to come up with some kind of an action plan.

I do already have a vision for my deck this year; we essentially use it as another living room in the summer and already have our deck furniture in place (minus the cushions). I’m so glad we stained it last fall so this year we only have to do a few touch ups.

The rest of the exterior of the house is another story. It needs a good pressure washing & the shutters need a coat of paint. We also have a lot of downed branches in our yard from windy days this past winter. Spring cleanup is also fast approaching where we have the opportunity to clean out the garage and leave some items curbside for pick up. None of these projects are exciting or glamorous to think about but necessary to bring it back to life after a long winter. It’s a little overwhelming & will likely take a few weekends to get it back into shape. Once that’s complete then it will be time to turn our attention to the cottage & the bunky! I should certainly have a lot of content to share with you in the coming weeks, so be sure to follow along on Instagram!
Here’s a few items I am hoping to invest in for the exterior of the house.
1) Window boxes & flowers
2) Stain for garage door
3) Black paint for back door
4) Planters, flowers and cactus - we spent a lot of time in PEI so I need something that can stand up to heat with minimal watering!
5) Resurface our front step - a good friend has agreed to help us with this if we can find the right time to tackle it!
6) A trellis for the garage
7) and a swing chair!

I made a bit of a vision board which helps to see everything come together. Do you have a plan for your homes summer exterior?

TBC....

  11. When you start thinking about your spring cleaning checklist for the interior of your home, you should also consider the cleaning needed on the exterior of your home. This includes cleaning your roof. There are many things you can do to keep your roof in good condition to avoid needing costly repairs or a roof replacement.
